PITTSBURGH (January 21, 2026) – The Salvation Army has received a grant for $20,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will be used towards building a better future by supporting the organization’s feeding programs in Allegheny Valley (Brackenridge) and New Kensington, Pa.

“We are grateful to Bayer Fund for continuing to support the communities we serve,” said Major Marcus Jugenheimer, Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania. “This grant marks the fourth consecutive year we have received funding. This donation allows us to respond proactively to food insecurity. From providing emergency food assistance, to ensuring students in our area have nourishing food options while away from school, this work would not be possible without this generous grant.”

In Bayer Fund and The Salvation Army’s mutual goal to see the communities we serve flourish, this grant was awarded to power The Salvation Army’s 'Feed It Forward' initiative, supporting neighbors in need. This funding sustains vital feeding programs, including community meals and emergency food pantries for families and individuals in crisis. Additionally, the grant supports the 'Love in a Backpack' program—ensuring students have access to weekend meals. Support also fuels a weekly market and interactive cooking demonstrations in New Kensington.

Bayer Fund supports Bayer’s, one of the country’s largest life-sciences companies, mission of Health for all, Hunger for none by working with organizations and nonprofits, like The Salvation Army to support health & wellness and food & nutrition.

“Bayer Fund is proud to support The Salvation Army and their work to make real, sustainable impacts in their community,” said Michael Parrish, President of Bayer Fund. “Programs like The Salvation Army’s Feed It Forward help combat the critical issue of food insecurity, and we’re honored to play a role with helping even more people in our community have access to healthy, nutritious food.”

Last year, Bayer Fund supported more than 2,200 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in food & nutrition and health & wellness.
