The Salvation Army of Petoskey proudly marks its 125th anniversary on July 1, 2026, celebrating more than a century of service to individuals and families across Emmet, Charlevoix, and Antrim Counties.

Founded in 1901, the Petoskey Corps remains committed to its mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. For 125 years, it has provided essential support—including food, clothing, emergency assistance, and community programs—to neighbors in need.

A Legacy of Service—and a Time of Need

From its earliest days, The Salvation Army of Petoskey has offered food, clothing, and spiritual support, evolving into a broad network of services that support people of all ages. This work continues today, grounded in faith and driven by compassion; however, the organization is facing a significant challenge.

Donations have declined to their lowest level in five years, as inflation, disaster response demands, and economic pressures affect household giving. At the same time, community need is at its highest level, increasing demand for critical services.

Christmas in July Red Kettle Day — Friday, July 10

As part of its 125th anniversary year—and in response to growing community need—The Salvation Army will host a special Christmas in July Red Kettle Day on Friday, July 10.

Community members are encouraged to donate at Red Kettle locations throughout Emmet, Charlevoix, and Antrim Counties, offering a meaningful and accessible way to support local programs. Funds raised will directly support services such as food assistance, emergency financial aid, and many other community programs that operate year-round.

Leadership Transition

The anniversary also marks a leadership transition. Envoy Roman Hank is retiring after many years of dedicated service to the Petoskey Corps. Beginning July 1, 2026, leadership will pass to Major Brian Reed and Major Heidi Reed, who will continue advancing the organization’s mission in Northern Michigan.

"We are deeply grateful for Envoy Hank’s years of faithful leadership and the impact he has made in this community," said The Salvation Army Advisory Board Chairman Curt Reynolds. "At the same time, we are excited for the arrival of Majors Brian and Heidi Reed, who bring many years of wonderful experience serving communities throughout Michigan, bringing hope to those in need. With the Reeds at the helm, we look forward to building on our long legacy here in Northern Michigan and continuing to serve our neighbors with compassion, meeting needs wherever they exist."
