The Salvation Army of Central Indiana announces success of 2025 Christmas Goal
The Salvation Army of Central Indiana raised $3.41 million during the Christmas season, exceeding its goal by $140,000, largely thanks to corporate partners and the Central Indiana community.
In addition to funding success, The Salvation Army served more than 5,900 local children through Angel Tree, a 17% increase in children from 2024. Much of that success was based on a 62% increase in sponsorships of children in Central Indiana, ensuring every child received Christmas gifts.
“This incredible achievement speaks to the heart of our community,” said Major Dan Sawka, General Secretary of The Salvation Army of Indiana. “Hoosier hospitality showed up in a major way this last Christmas season. Because of the generosity of our neighbors, thousands of families experienced hope during a time they needed it most.”
One such family, riddled with medical bills, came to The Salvation Army Eagle Creek food pantry for the first time last year. They found relief in getting most of their groceries from the food pantry to allow them to pay their bills. The family was also able to apply for Christmas Assistance and receive gifts for their children to open on Christmas morning.
Community members also stepped up through volunteering. In 2025 The Salvation Army had more people ringing the bell at Red Kettle locations, organizing Christmas gifts, and distributing necessities across Indianapolis and the surrounding areas.
Funds raised during the Christmas season support Salvation Army programs year-round, not just during the holidays. Currently, food insecurity and housing assistance remain among the greatest needs facing families across Central Indiana. In recent months The Salvation Army of Central Indiana saw a 20% increase in requests for our food and housing services.
There are plenty of ways to still get involved and help our neighbors in need:
- Volunteer at any one of our facilities
- Collect non-perishables for our food pantries
- Donate financially
