An annual tradition is returning to Vigo County as The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign kicks off across the country. With more than 3,500 hours of bell ringing planned for the months of November and December, The Salvation Army of Vigo County is in urgent need of bell ringers to man kettles at area retailers.

Applicants for these paid positions must be at least sixteen years old and could work up to forty hours per week through December 24. Applications are available at The Salvation Army, located at 234 S. 8th Street, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - Noon and 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Volunteer bell ringing shifts are available on RegisterToRing.com for individuals, families, groups, and organizations looking to give back this holiday season. The Salvation Army depends on hundreds of volunteers to step up each Christmas to man Red Kettles across Vigo County. Each two-hour shift ringing a bell at a Red Kettle can raise enough money to feed a family of four for a week.

The Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, which dates back to 1891, places the iconic kettles outside of retail locations across the country with bell ringers greeting shoppers and encouraging donations to help fund local Salvation Army ministries. Red Kettles collect money to fund vital year-round ministries, including the feeding programs that help our most vulnerable populations during difficult times.

"Bell ringers are the lifeblood of our Red Kettle campaign," said Major Tim Parker with The Salvation Army of Vigo County. "All our ministries to the community depend on funds raised during the Christmas season, so we're incredibly grateful for each and every person who rings to help change lives."
