CLEVELAND, OH (October 21st, 2025)—The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland held its annual “Serving Others” luncheon on Friday, October 17th, at the Hilton in downtown Cleveland. This year, the event focused on showcasing the Salvation Army's success throughout Cuyahoga County and raising support for the upcoming Christmas season.

In addition to highlighting these key initiatives, The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland honored Echo Health and posthumously recognized Bill Davis, the CEO of Echo Health who passed away last summer. They received The Salvation Army’s “Others Awards,” which honor individuals and/or organizations that demonstrate extraordinary service to others.

Echo Health and Mr. Davis have been long-time supporters of The Salvation Army, especially during our Christmas Campaign to ensure children have toys under the Christmas tree. Bill Davis promoted toy drives through his business and donated hundreds of toys each holiday season. Echo Health has worked tirelessly to ensure families throughout Cuyahoga County enjoy a Merry Christmas, stated Captain Joel Ashcraft, Area Commander of The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland.

The Salvation Army also presented the Donald Strang Community Service Award, a local honor, to attorney Madi Maruna for her ongoing dedication to supporting her community. Maruna, a litigation attorney at Cavitch, Familo, and Durkin, has also been a dedicated advocate for encouraging young community leaders to participate in local organizations. Maruna was a driving force behind The Salvation Army launching a local chapter of The Salvation Army Echelon, which is a young professionals board that is focused on service to the community.

“The Salvation Army has been blessed with Madi's support. She has helped launch and develop our Echelon Cleveland chapter, making it one of the most successful in the United States. She currently inspires Echelon chapters across the country to help them grow and nurture new young leaders. Madi has a passion and spirit for our mission, and we are honored to recognize her at this event,” said Ashcraft.

Finally, during the annual event, The Salvation Army in Greater Cleveland launched its yearly Christmas campaign. This campaign will focus on efforts such as providing toys for children, setting up the iconic red kettles, and supporting other important Christmas programs. The Salvation Army aims to help more than 6,000 children this holiday season and will have red kettle locations at most major retailers throughout Cuyahoga County on Black Friday.

“Christmas is such an important time in a child's development. We have seen that having a toy to open on Christmas morning can boost a child’s self-esteem, academic performance, and social interactions," finished Ashcraft.
