The Salvation Army Asks for Help from the Community to Reach Goal
The bells are no longer ringing, and the Red Kettles are put away for the year, but The Salvation Army of Columbus is still working to reach its $245,000 Christmas fundraising goal. They fell short of the goal, raising $198,000 by the end of December, and are now asking for the public's help to ensure that important programs and services will be available through 2026.
"The Salvation Army of Columbus serves more than 1,300 families each month through our social services programs," said Captain Amy Tompkins. "We send children to camp each summer, walk alongside families as they work to break the cycle of poverty, and support seniors in our community every day. We cannot do this work without your help. Each year, the needs in our community continue to grow—and so does the need for financial support. Your generosity allows us to continue serving the people of our great Columbus community."
A PLEA FOR HELP
Captain Tompkins is hoping to raise an additional $50,000 by the end of February to fully fund programs and services planned for 2026. Donations can be mailed to or dropped off to The Salvation Army at 2525 Illinois Avenue, Columbus, IN 47201. Online donations can be made to https://donate.salvationarmyindiana.org/columbus.
Donations made to The Salvation Army support its food pantry, utility and rent assistance programs, youth camps, and the life-changing Pathway of Hope program. Low-income seniors are also supported through Booth Manor, which provides housing and enrichment for a population that is often overlooked.
"Our programs are vital to our community, but with your support we can reach our goal, continue to bless others, and make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve," Captain Tompkins added. "Thank you for standing with us. Through your donations, we can reach more individuals and families, meeting critical needs without discrimination, in His name."
Every donation given to The Salvation Army of Columbus provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in Bartholomew County. Visit SAColumbus.org to learn more about how you can help The Salvation Army spread joy in our community and continue to help those in need in 2026.
