For families across New York City, the rising cost of everyday essentials continues to put pressure on household budgets. For parents with young children, necessities like diapers, wipes, and formula can add up quickly, making it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.

While assistance programs like SNAP help families put food on the table, diapers and baby wipes are not covered by these benefits. For families already struggling with the cost of groceries, rent, and other basic needs, purchasing baby supplies can create an additional financial burden.

At Salvation Army community centers across New York City, staff are seeing firsthand how much families need access to these everyday essentials.

At The Salvation Army's Harlem Community Center, the demand for diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby supplies highlights the challenges facing parents in the neighborhood. By helping connect families with these resources, The Salvation Army provides much-needed relief and allows parents to direct their limited resources toward other necessities.

"At the Harlem Community Center, we see firsthand how much financial pressure families are under. Parents are doing everything they can to provide for their children, but sometimes they need a little extra support to make ends meet. Having access to diapers, wipes, formula and other baby essentials can make a meaningful difference for a family, and we’re grateful to be able to connect our neighbors with these resources," said Captain Neek Fils-Aime, leader of The Salvation Army Harlem Community Center.

For parents facing financial hardship, access to these supplies can mean one less difficult decision between competing household expenses. Beyond providing immediate relief, these resources offer families reassurance that they have a community they can turn to for support.

As the cost of living continues to challenge New Yorkers, The Salvation Army remains committed to meeting the needs of families in the communities it serves. Through its network of community centers, The Salvation Army works to provide practical assistance, compassion, and hope to neighbors facing difficult circumstances.

By helping families access essential supplies, The Salvation Army is working to ensure that parents have the support they need to care for their children and build a more stable future.
