Salvation Army seeking donations to support Gulf Coast families and community programs

The Salvation Army is asking the community to clean out their closets, garages, and storage rooms as its family store deals with a shortage of donations.
Organizers say those donations help support local programs and neighbors in need.
Now through Wednesday, people can drop off items at the trailer outside the Kroc Center from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day.
Clothing, toys, and furniture are especially needed.
For larger items, the Salvation Army will even send a truck to pick them up directly from your home.
Organizers say donations of any size will make a big impact. Major Paul Egan said, “Last year the Salvation Army made $600,000 in sales over at our family store. $50,000 of that came right back into our programs, profit to support the efforts of the Salvation Army. We also gave away $20,000 worth of items to people in need, all through that family store in Gulfport. And so, when people come and donate, they make a huge impact in their neighbors’ lives. But any clothing can be used by the Salvation Army, if not to be able to be sold or to be given away, even to be recycled, we’re able to make use of.”
The Salvation Army is also looking to partner with local businesses to serve as additional donation drop-off locations across the Coast.
