The Salvation Army Prepares for Freezing Temps

Mississippi Gulf Coast (January 22, 2026)- The Salvation Army is opening its Cold Weather Shelter to help protect our most vulnerable neighbors. The Cold Weather Shelter will operate from 6:00 pm – 7:00 am on Sunday and Monday offering hot dinner, light breakfast, beverages, and a safe haven from dangerous weather conditions, when temperatures drop below 35 degrees.

"This winter storm poses significant risks to our unsheltered neighbors," said Major Paul Egan, Area Commander. "We're working with community partners and utilizing all available resources to ensure everyone has access to warmth and safety during these dangerous conditions."

The community can support these efforts by donating:

Blankets for the cots

Hot meal items: Stouffer’s family sized lasagna, pizza order, large cans of vegetables, etc.

easy to prepare and serve meals

Non-perishable food
