The Salvation Army of Elkhart announced today that it is falling drastically short of its Christmas fundraising goal, putting critical assistance programs for local families at risk during one of the most challenging seasons of the year.

As of this week, the Elkhart Salvation Army has raised $294,000, far below its $500,000 target. These funds are essential to support programs such as food assistance, utility help, and rent support for families in need throughout the Elkhart area.
“This shortfall directly affects our ability to serve families who are already struggling,” said Major Tim Nauta of The Salvation Army of Elkhart. “Every dollar we raise stays right here in our community, helping neighbors keep the heat on, put food on the table, and stay in their home.”
Rising costs of living, increased demand for assistance, and lower-than-expected donations have all contributed to the gap. The Salvation Army reports that requests for help this season have increased compared to previous years, making community support more critical than ever.
The organization is urging residents, businesses, and community partners to consider making a donation before January 31. Contributions of any size can make an immediate difference.
Donations can be made:
• Online at www.saelkhart.org
• By mail or in person at 300 N. Main St., Elkhart, IN 46516
“We know this community is generous,” Nauta added. “With your help, we can still reach families who are counting on us this Christmas.”
