Salvation Army drive raises more than $6,000

PORT HURON — The Sherman Woods Homeowners Association recently announced that its 2024 Red Kettle Christmas campaign raised $6,034 to support The Salvation Army’s annual holiday fundraising drive in Port Huron.
For the ninth consecutive year, Sherman Woods residents volunteered to staff a neighborhood Red Kettle drop-off during eight Christmas weekend evenings and an additional shift on Christmas Eve, according to organizers. Visitors donated while touring the neighborhood’s well-known holiday light displays.
“We’re pleased to report that residents and visitors once again showed strong support for the Red Kettle campaign,” said Fred Kemp, president of the Sherman Woods Homeowners Association.
The festive evenings featured the Sherman Woods Chorus, visits from Santa Claus and the Grinch, and horse-drawn carriage rides, adding to the community spirit.
Since the initiative began in 2016, Sherman Woods volunteers have contributed a total of $48,328 to The Salvation Army’s Port Huron programs.
“We deeply appreciate the residents, friends, and family members who give their time to ring the bell during such a busy season,” Kemp said. “The generosity of our visitors helps The Salvation Army provide Christmas gifts for children and meals for families in need. We look forward to continuing this tradition next year.”
