Promoted to Glory: Major Terry Edwards

Major Terry Edwards was Promoted to Glory from his home in Graham, NC, on July 27, 2026. He was 78. 

Terry Wesley Edwards was born in Mount Airy, NC, on September 22, 1947, to his parents, Lonnie and Dovie Edwards. As a teenager, a friend invited him to The Salvation Army where he was later converted to Christ in April 1965. 

On February 10, 1968, he married Linda Robertson. He worked at a textile and cloth plant before taking the position of director of The Salvation Army’s Children’s Home in Sumter, SC. He was commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant on June 13, 1971, as a member of the Victorious session of cadets. 

His first appointment was as assistant corps officer in Burlington, NC. He spent his entire career as a faithful corps officer in the North & South Carolina Division, with posts in Shelton Laurel, Conway, Orangeburg, Salisbury, New Bern, Durham, Sumter, Elizabeth City, Burlington, Mount Airy, High Point, Wilson, and Easley. Majors Terry and Linda Edwards retired from active officership on July 1, 2010, after 41 years of pastoral service. 

Major Terry Edwards is preceded in death by his parents; as well as a sister, Linda Akers; and brother, Donald (Teresa) Akers. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Major Linda Edwards; three children, Terry D. Edwards, Tamee (Terry) Penley, and Brian Edwards; three sisters, Shelia (Richard) Durham, Connie (Rodney) Glidewell, Wanda Akers; one brother, Doug Akers; and an extended family member, Howard Tate. He also leaves seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. 

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on July 31, 2026, at The Salvation Army of Alamance County. Burial will follow later that afternoon at Stewarts Creek “Oak Hollow” Primitive Baptist Church in Mount Airy, NC.
