Promoted to Glory: Major Cortland Moore

Major Cortland Moore was Promoted to Glory on March 14, 2026, at the age of 97. 

Cortland Wesley Moore was born in Sommerville, MA, on April 23, 1928, to parents Myron and Ethelwyn Moore. At the age of 12, he accepted Christ as his Savior. After high school graduation, he enrolled in college pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. He was a United States Navy Reservist and an accomplished French horn player. 

Seeking God’s will for his life, he was led to The Salvation Army in 1950 and entered training that fall from the Orlando Citadel Corps. He was commissioned on June 4, 1951, as a member of the Ambassadors session. 

Lieutenant Cortland served in corps appointments in New Orleans, LA; Hattiesburg, MS; Weirton, WV; Baltimore Temple, MD; and Salisbury, MD. 

He married Lieutenant Ola Mae Covey on July 26, 1954. Together they served in Wellsburg, WV; Annapolis, MD; Havre de Grace, MD; Baltimore South, MD; Baltimore Patterson Park, MD; Baltimore Temple, MD; Dallas, TX; Chattanooga Citadel, TN; and, Memphis Ben Lear, TN. 

The Majors Moore retired on April 30, 1993, having faithfully served as Salvation Army officers for almost 42 years. 

Major Cortland Moore is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Major Ola Mae Moore. He is survived by his son, Danny Moore. 

A Celebration of Life service is set for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Damascus, MD.
