Promoted to Glory: Lt. Colonel Martha Jewett

Lt. Colonel Martha Jewett was Promoted to Glory on June 27, 2026, at the age of 73.
Martha Gaye Brewer was born on October 22, 1952, to parents Jack and Florence Brewer in Winston-Salem, NC. Because her parents were Salvation Army officers, Martha grew up in North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia.
She married Vern Jewett on August 16, 1975, and together they served in professional positions with The Salvation Army in Las Vegas and at the Southwest Divisional Headquarters in Phoenix.
In 1978, the couple entered the Evangeline Booth College in the Southern Territory as members of the Proclaimers of Salvation session of cadets. Following their commissioning in 1980, they went on to serve in five corps appointments in Waycross and Columbus, GA, and in Hialeah and Lakeland, FL.
A two-year appointment to Territorial Headquarters came next, where they served as department leaders for Evangelism & Adult Ministries. For their remaining 17 years of active officership, the Jewetts provided leadership at the Evangeline Booth College, the North & South Carolina Division, and the Florida Division, from which they entered honored retirement in 2014.
Colonel Martha was a radically committed follower of Jesus Christ. She sought Him fervently and walked with Him daily. She had a remarkable ability to connect in a real way with everyone. This transparent openness was a gift from God, which made her wonderfully attentive to every person she met. Countless people over the years described her as “beautiful both inside and out.”
Lt. Colonel Martha Jewett is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Brewer.
She is survived by her husband, Lt. Colonel Vern Jewett; her children, Anna (Justin) Street, Sarah (Jeff) Clarke, and Booth (Brittany Lotito) Jewett; and six grandchildren. She also leaves one sister, Rebecca Nuesch Ramirez.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 22, 2026, at the Atlanta Temple Corps.
