WELCOME CAPTAINS!

Salvation Army Officership is a lifelong commitment. When an officer is commissioned, a covenant is signed – a solemn promise to love and serve God, and to faithfully do the duties and responsibilities as an officer in The Salvation Army.

Officers make themselves available to work anywhere The Salvation Army appoints them, and Champaign County now has two new officers. WELCOME!

Captains Kenyon and Melissa Sivels are eager and excited to join us and they have now assumed leadership of The Salvation Army in Champaign.

Captain Kenyon is a first generation member of The Salvation Army, having become a member of the church in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. He fell in love with the Army’s work and mission as a teenager and stayed connected to the organization while in college at the University of Michigan where he earned his bachelor’s degree in American Culture with a minor in Urban Studies.

Captain Melissa grew up as a member of The Salvation Army as her parents are Salvation Army officers and grandparents also retired as Salvation Army officers. She is finishing her bachelor’s degree in Business and Ethics at Nazarene Bible College.

Kenyon and Melissa have two young children, Trinity and Eden, who bring great joy and vibrancy to the Champaign team.

Kenyon enjoys time with his family, exploring local restaurants, playing golf, pickleball and cheering on the Michigan Wolverines. (Don't hold that against him... haha)

Melissa also enjoys time with family, finding local coffee shops and spending time in nature.

We are excited to see what God has in store for Champaign County as these two energetic, intelligent officers impact our community by preaching the gospel and serving human needs in His name without discrimination.
