Fred Klaus’ journey with The Salvation Army began in February of 1976 at the Red Shield Shelter in Atlanta where he served as business administrator. In those early days, the shelter operated in a very different environment, one with many more re-entry residents and even greater challenges on the front lines of homelessness and social need. Fred didn’t just manage numbers; he lived the mission. On occasion, his duties even required him to handcuff residents on the Federal Pre-Release program and return them to jail when necessary. In certain situations when funds were unaccounted for, Fred would even escort staff members for a polygraph examination conducted by an FBI representative.

After six years at the Red Shield Shelter, Fred joined the finance team at Metro Atlanta Area Command (MAAC) in 1982. Fred’s meticulous work, steady leadership, and honest management have been key to MAAC’s financial health. His knowledge and dedication have supported every program and service that depend on solid financial management.

For 50 years, Fred’s work has made thousands of hours of service and ministry possible for people in need. He has helped The Salvation Army carry out its mission to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and help people in need without discrimination. By supporting emergency shelters and stability programs, and through mentoring others, Fred has helped build trust, restore dignity, and improve countless lives in Atlanta and the surrounding communities.

The Salvation Army Leads Mississippi House of Representatives in Prayer

The Salvation Army had the privilege of offering the invocation at the Mississippi House of Representatives during their regular session the last week in February.

The prayer was led by Alabama- Louisiana-Mississippi Divisional Commander Major Anthony Juliana, accompanied by Jackson Corps and Center of Hope Officer Major Timothy Delaney, Representative Oscar Denton, and Speaker Jason White. It was a powerful moment of faith as they lifted up state leaders, asking for wisdom, discernment, and integrity as they serve the people of Mississippi.

The Jackson Metro Area Command was honored and grateful for the opportunity to stand in prayer and represent The Salvation Army in such a meaningful way.
