Holiday shoppers in La Porte have a great opportunity to double the impact of their charitable giving later this week. On December 11, 12, and 13 all gifts made to Red Kettles at local businesses will be doubled thanks to a local couple. For shoppers, it means that a $5 bill becomes $10 and every $20 turns into $40. The anonymous supporters are offering up to $5,000 in matching dollars and are encouraging shoppers to dig a little deeper in their pockets to help those in need in La Porte County.

LAP Bell Ringer 1a.pngWith the recent cold snap and snow storms decreasing donations at Red Kettles, this gift comes at a critical time. Funds raised during this annual fundraising campaign make it possible to provide vital programs and services throughout the following year. Emergency assistance, food, and community center programs are all supported by the Red Kettles.

"We are deeply grateful for the generosity of these anonymous donors. Their willingness to match gifts in our Red Kettles comes at a time when so many La Porte County families are struggling in a difficult economy," said Major Becky Simmons of The Salvation Army La Porte Corps. "This kind of compassion reflects the true meaning of Christmas, and we hope it inspires others to give what they can. Every donation, large or small, helps us bring hope to our neighbors who need it most."

Shoppers looking for a Red Kettle this week will find bell ringers at Walmart, Kabelin Ace Hardware, Kroger, Al's, and the U.S. Post Office. Volunteer bell ringers are still needed to man every kettle the full three days of the match. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell this week is invited to visit RegisterToRing.com and find a location, date, and time that works for their schedule.

Every donation given to The Salvation Army through the annual Red Kettle Campaign provides help and hope to those in need, and all gifts stay right here in the community where it is given. Visit SALaPorte.org to learn more about how you can help The Salvation Army bring joy to more local families in need in 2026.
