Donut Day: A Sweet Way to Serve

National Donut Day originated during World War I when Salvation Army volunteers, known as "Doughnut Lassies," served fresh doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines in France, often frying them in helmets to provide comfort and a taste of home. In 1938, the day was officially established in Chicago to honor their service and to help raise funds during the Great Depression.

This year, we kicked off our celebration at the Long Beach Veterans’ Hospital and the Anaheim Emergency Shelter, sharing donuts with veterans and their families. We also made special stops to thank our Orange County emergency responders, bringing them some Donut Day cheer in appreciation for their dedicated service.

Soulshaping Retreat: Encouragement for the Soul

The Orange County staff experienced a profound Soul Shaping Retreat, a day dedicated to worship, encouragement, and connection. Guided by Influence Church, the event included three powerful worship sessions and enjoyable icebreaker activities. Participants gained valuable insights, such as the importance of exchanging burdens for God's peace, adopting a more purpose-driven mindset, and understanding their work as a divine calling. This renewed outlook helps transform their everyday tasks into a truly mission-driven endeavor.

Meet Richard Arechiga

This month, we're thrilled to recognize Richard Arechiga as our June Employee of the Month! Though he is fairly new at the Placentia Navigation Center, Richard has quickly become an invaluable team member. He consistently demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and an impressive eagerness to learn. Beyond his skills, Richard is a wonderfully positive and dedicated colleague with a true collaborative spirit.
