Hope in Action Across Northern New England
Hope in Action Across Northern New England
The Salvation Army’s Impact Throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont
Across the small towns, coastal cities, rural villages, and mountain communities of Northern New England, The Salvation Army continues to stand as a constant presence of hope. Last year, our corps, programs, volunteers and community partners worked together to deliver essential services and compassionate care to thousands of our neighbors in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
In total, the generosity of the public fueled more than $9.3 million in philanthropic support, ensuring that families, individuals, children, and seniors received the critical help they needed. That support is reinforced each year by tens of thousands of pounds of donated food and tens of thousands of winter coats, toys, and other goods given directly by local businesses, civic groups, churches, and individual donors who believe in caring for their community.
Meeting Practical Needs
Every number represents a person, a story, and a need that was met because someone cared. Last year, The Salvation Army across the Northern New England Division provided:
- 94,620 meals through soup kitchens and emergency disaster services
- 93,619 grocery orders to households facing food insecurity
- 41,970 items of clothing, 17,498 pieces of furniture, and 7,498 hygiene kits
- 843 households supported with emergency housing or utility assistance
- 83,937 people served in total through social services
- This includes 18,806 men, 10,314 women, and 16,405 families
Additionally, when our region faced crises—from fires to floods—1,433 individuals received emergency disaster support from trained Salvation Army response teams.
Investing in Youth and the Future
Hope grows when young people thrive. Across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont:
- 440 children attended summer camp at Camp Sebago
- Children enjoyed 2,200 total days of camp experiences in nature, character and spiritual building, and fun
- 7,821 music and worship arts lessons helped youth learn instruments, build confidence, and express their talents
Sharing Joy at Christmas
Christmas continues to be one of the most meaningful expressions of community compassion. Last year:
- 65,447 toys were distributed to children
- 12,589 additional gifts were provided to teens, seniors, and families
- 16,100 individuals received Christmas assistance
- Including 4,669 families, as well as 79 men and 84 women
A Community Effort
Behind every meal, every toy, every survival kit, and every night of shelter is a donor, a volunteer, a bell ringer, a local business partner, a church, or a civic group that said, “Yes — I will help.” This work is a shared mission of compassion.
The Salvation Army of Northern New England is honored to serve, but more importantly, we are grateful to serve together with our communities. With continued partnership, we will remain steadfast in our commitment to fight hunger, homelessness, poverty, addiction, and hardship — one person, one family, and one community at a time.
Together, we are doing the most good.
