The Salvation Army Grants Pass Welcomes New Leaders Majors Mark and Dora Stearns
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The Salvation Army Grants Pass is pleased to welcome Majors Mark and Dora Stearns as its new Corps Officers, bringing decades of Salvation Army leadership and ministry experience to Josephine County.
Throughout their years of service, Majors Stearns have dedicated their lives to helping individuals and families in need, leading Salvation Army programs and operations, building strong community partnerships, and sharing the mission of The Salvation Army.
“We are excited to be in Grants Pass and to get to know this community,” said Majors Mark and Dora Stearns. “The Salvation Army has a long history of serving here, and we are honored to become part of that story. We look forward to working alongside local businesses, churches, civic organizations, volunteers, and community partners as we serve our neighbors and help bring hope to people who need it most.”
One of the Stearns' primary objectives will be to double the membership of The Salvation Army Grants Pass Advisory Board, strengthening the local leadership and community connections needed to support the growing demand for services.
Over the past year, The Salvation Army Grants Pass has more than doubled the number of people it serves, reflecting the increasing number of local individuals and families turning to the organization for help. As that need continues to climb, expanding the Advisory Board has become increasingly important.
“The need in our community is growing, and we cannot do this work alone,” the Stearns said. “A strong Advisory Board helps provide the connections, vision and leadership needed to make sure The Salvation Army can continue responding effectively to the needs of Josephine County. We are looking forward to bringing more community leaders around the table who care deeply about Grants Pass and want to make a meaningful difference.”
The Salvation Army expects to welcome five new Advisory Board members in the coming months as part of that effort, while continuing to seek additional business, civic and community leaders interested in serving.
At the same time, the Stearns are already jumping into action as The Salvation Army prepares for one of its busiest seasons of the year.
Each holiday season, The Salvation Army Grants Pass provides assistance to thousands of people throughout Josephine County through Christmas programs, food assistance, gifts for children and families, and other services designed to help households experiencing financial hardship. The familiar Red Kettles will also soon return throughout the community, raising critical funds that help support local services throughout the year.
“We want people to know that our doors are open,” the Stearns said. “We would love for people to stop by, introduce themselves and learn more about what The Salvation Army is doing in Grants Pass. We are also happy to visit local civic clubs, churches, businesses and organizations to share about the work being done and the many ways people can become involved.”
The Salvation Army has served Southern Oregon for more than a century and continues to provide practical assistance and compassionate care to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. In Grants Pass, local programs include food assistance, emergency support, seasonal assistance and connections to resources that help strengthen individuals and families.
