While Thanksgiving is a special time for many New Yorkers, it can also be a challenging time for neighbors experiencing food insecurity or those who may not have a place to gather for the holiday. It's an opportunity to give back, support local communities, and help make the season a little brighter for those in need.
This Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army Greater New York Division is inviting New Yorkers to make a difference through volunteer opportunities at holiday food distributions and meal services across New York City.
From distributing turkeys and Thanksgiving meal packages for families to prepare and enjoy at home to serving hot holiday meals that bring community members together, there are several ways to get involved.
At The Salvation Army's Union Square location in Manhattan, volunteers can help distribute Thanksgiving meals to local families on Thanksgiving Day. In Harlem, volunteers can assist with turkey distributions and a community Thanksgiving meal, while The Salvation Army's Bushwick Community Center in Brooklyn will also offer opportunities to help provide holiday food assistance to neighbors in need.
These are just a few of the ways New Yorkers can give back this holiday season, with additional opportunities available at Salvation Army community centers throughout the five boroughs.

Whether helping families prepare for Thanksgiving or serving a warm meal to neighbors in need, volunteers can make a meaningful difference and help ensure that more New Yorkers experience the warmth, joy, and sense of community that make the holiday special.
