From the Food Pantry to a Home of Her Own

Sometimes a visit to The Salvation Army for food or Christmas assistance becomes the beginning of something much bigger.

Staff in Jamestown first became acquainted with one mother while her husband was incarcerated. As they continued seeing her and her children through the food pantry and Christmas assistance program, the relationship grew.

Rather than addressing only the family's immediate needs, Salvation Army staff began connecting the mother with additional programs and resources that could help her work toward greater stability and independence.

She kept moving forward.

Today, she is working as a hospital security guard and has achieved something that once may have seemed far out of reach:

She is now a homeowner providing a home for herself and her children!

Her journey is an example of what can happen when assistance extends beyond meeting an immediate need. A box of groceries may be where the relationship begins, but encouragement, connections and ongoing support can help a family build a very different future
