On Friday, May 2, Fifth Third Bank celebrated its 34th annual Fifth Third Day by once again partnering with The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit for a day of service and generosity at the Detroit Harbor Light community kitchen.

Dozens of Fifth Third volunteers gathered to prepare sandwiches and meals for use in the Harbor Light dining room and on the Bed & Bread Club® truck, which delivers meals to those experiencing homelessness and hunger across Detroit.

Alongside their hands-on support, Fifth Third contributed a generous $20,000 to The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread program, helping sustain daily meal and shelter services for a population where over 51% are low-to-moderate income.

“Fifth Third Day is our self-proclaimed national holiday,” said David Girodat, Fifth Third Regional President in Eastern Michigan. “We really focus on food insecurity in our footprint here in Eastern Michigan, and in all 11 states and 14 major markets where we do business.”

The Salvation Army is deeply grateful for Fifth Third’s continued support and commitment to fighting hunger in Detroit. The 34th annual Fifth Third Day was a resounding success, demonstrating the power of community and corporate partnership in making a meaningful difference.
