The Salvation Army of Elkhart will be helping one hundred senior citizens to secure a new pair of shoes. Three local sponsors have graciously underwritten the cost of the gift cards: Rollie Williams Paint Spot, First State Bank, and Waypoint Community Church. On Wednesday, April 22, from 9:00 am till 11:00 am, there will be signups at The Salvation Army building in downtown Elkhart. Eligible persons, aged 55 or older, will need to sign up in person to receive a $60 gift card and a 20% discount coupon that is good for use at Shoe Carnival of Elkhart. Registrants must provide a government-issued ID as well as proof of residence within the corps service area which includes the zip codes in the northern half of Elkhart County.
Gift cards will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible
applicants. This event will be held in conjunction with the Prime Timers senior
citizen program featuring activities, games, and food.
Ron Sherck, Development Director, shared, “This is our corps fourth year of
supporting local senior citizens in a special way. Rising costs have made it difficultor nearly impossible for some elderly citizens to secure a good pair of shoes.
Research shows that wearing good shoes has a positive impact on the overall
health and wellness of senior citizens. We are grateful to our three sponsors who share that commitment to supporting our senior citizen community.”
All senior citizens, age 55 and older, and could benefit from assistance to secure a new pair of shoes, are invited to sign up. The sign-ups will take place at 300 N Main Street, Elkhart, IN.
