Commissioner Phil Needham’s Legacy Honored at Atlanta Temple
The Atlanta Temple Corps recently dedicated their church library to the memory of former Southern Territorial Commander and lifelong witness for Christ, Commissioner Phil Needham. Commissioner Needham was a prolific author and a champion of the written word as a tool for spreading the gospel message until his Promotion to Glory on August 15, 2023.
On May 17, 2026, the Atlanta Temple Corps paused to honor Commissioner Needham, to pray over his family, and to thank his wife, Commissioner Keitha Needham, for generously donating many books and other meaningful items that will help make the Commissioner Phil Needham Spiritual Life Library a lasting resource for discipleship, spiritual growth, and encouragement.
Following the Sunday service, the corps members gathered around the library as Atlanta Temple soldier Bernie Dake read a prayer written to honor Commissioner Needham’s legacy and bless the library’s future ministry.

Heavenly Father, we pause with grateful hearts to dedicate this library in loving memory and honor of your servant, Phil Needham.
Thank you for the gift of his life, for his faithfulness as a Salvation Army officer, for his love for your Word, for his thoughtful voice, and for the countless ways he encouraged people to know Jesus more deeply and follow him more fully.
Phil understood that books are more than paper and ink. Ideas shape hearts. Stories inspire faith. Truth points people toward you. We pray that this space would become more than simply a room filled with shelves. Let it become a place of discovery, growth, reflection, discipleship, and holy imagination.
May every person who enters here find something that stirs their mind, strengthens their spirit, or draws them closer to Christ.
Today, we are especially grateful for Phil’s family and loved ones who are with us. We thank you for the way his legacy continues to live on through them, through their faith, their love, their sacrifices, and the countless memories they carry. Bless them with the deep assurance that Phil’s life mattered, his ministry bore fruit, and his influence continues to point people toward Jesus even today.
We thank you not only for the books Phil wrote, but for the life he lived, for the conversations he inspired, the gospel he proclaimed, and the humility, wisdom, and grace with which he served.
And Lord, as we dedicate this library, we ultimately dedicate it to you. May it always serve your purposes. May it encourage learning that leads to wisdom, wisdom that leads to compassion, and compassion that leads to faithful service.
Comfort those who still miss Phil deeply. Let us be filled not only with remembrance, but with hope and thanksgiving for a life poured out in service to the Kingdom of God.
