Area Mayors Support The Salvation Army with "Mayors on a Mission" on Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is just around the corner, and three Southwest Indiana civic leaders are coming together for one common cause. On December 2 the mayors of Evansville, Boonville, and Mount Vernon will be out ringing bells for The Salvation Army of Evansville in hopes of raising at least $2,000 each in Red Kettle donations from holiday shoppers.
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry, Boonville Mayor Charlie Wyatt, and Mount Vernon Mayor Steve Loehr will be volunteering at Red Kettles in their communities as a show of solidarity and commitment to helping The Salvation Army. The three leaders will be encouraging shoppers, workers, and other passersby to celebrate Giving Tuesday with a donation to their Red Kettle.
"MAYORS ON A MISSION" RED KETTLE LOCATIONS & TIMES
- Mayor Stephanie Terry: Evansville Civic Center, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Mayor Charlie Wyatt: Booneville Walmart, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
- Mayor Steve Loehr: Mount Vernon IGA, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
"We are grateful to Mayor Loehr, Mayor Terry, and Mayor Wyatt for stepping up to stand with us during this year’s Red Kettle Campaign," said Captain Brandon Lewis with The Salvation Army. "Their leadership reminds us that when a community comes together, hope grows. We’re inviting everyone to join the mission - stop by a kettle, volunteer an hour, or give what you can. Every gift helps change a life, so let’s change lives together this Christmas season."
The Salvation Army hopes that this new collaboration will become a Giving Tuesday tradition for years to come. The funds collected in Red Kettles and online throughout the holiday season make possible the year-round services and programs offered to the people of Vanderburg, Posey, and Warrick counties. From hot meals throughout the week to summer camp for kids, these programs help struggling Hoosiers find the help and support they need.
"I am very excited to help support the Salvation Army and all the services that they provide," said Mayor Steve Loehr. "We have three mayors ringing bells in three different counties meaning the people The Salvation Army serves will be the real winners. Please give!”
