14th Annual Comedy for a Cause
Comedy for a Cause Returns for 14th Year to Support
The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread Program
An evening of laughter with Emmy-Award winning comedian Paul Mecurio
to benefit Detroiters in need
The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit invites the community to enjoy a night of laughter for a powerful purpose during its 14th annual Comedy for a Cause event, benefitting the nonprofit’s Bed & Bread Club Radiothon. The event will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Comedy for a Cause features nationally recognized comedian Paul Mecurio as this year’s headliner. Mecurio is an Emmy and Peabody Award winner for his work on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He has appeared in his own Comedy Central special, starred in his own HBO series, and made numerous television appearances, including The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, Hannity, Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld, The Late, Late Show, and Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central).
“Comedy for a Cause is a reminder that even a single evening of joy and laughter can have a lasting impact on our neighbors who are struggling,” said Major Dawn Worthy, metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division. “The funds raised through this event help us ensure that men, women, and children across Detroit have access to meals, shelter, and compassionate care every single day of the year.”
Admission is $60 per person and includes a light dinner. The event is sponsored by Michigan Financial Companies, whose support benefits The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread program, serving more than 4,500 meals daily. Additionally, the program provides nearly 200 nights of shelter for individuals without a safe place to stay. Bed & Bread trucks operate 365 days a year, making designated stops throughout the city to deliver nourishment directly to those in need.
Comedy for a Cause kicks off the event, leading into The Salvation Army’s 39th annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon to air Feb. 26–27 on 760 WJR.
