How We Help Cure Hunger

We welcome anyone in need who walks through the doors, including the homeless, people down on their luck and in need of a little extra help, older adults and families struggling to feed their growing children.

Food Pantry  |  Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 9-11 a.m. and Tuesday & Thursday by appointment
Our food pantry helps to bridge the gap by offering nutritional staples including canned goods, packaged foods and bread to those struggling to find the means to provide adequate food for themselves and their families.

Meal Share Program
Each day at noon, we provide a balanced meal to approximately 45-50 low-income individuals who might not otherwise eat. Our noon lunch is also an opportunity for those who might often suffer from social isolation to connect with staff and peers in a warm, welcoming environment. We are grateful to our Meal Share partners: United Way, Wal-Mart, Feeding South Dakota and local grocery stores.

Snack Pack Program (September-May)
We serve approximately 400 low-income youth from Aberdeen, Brown County and the surrounding counties, partnering with the United Way, Aberdeen Public Schools, the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation, Feeding South Dakota, 3M and area churches to provide food to kids who are likely to go hungry over the weekend when school is out.

College Mobile Pantry  | First Tuesday of every month during fall and spring semesters
Our food truck parks at high-traffic areas at Northern State University and Presentation College on the first Tuesday of every month to distribute frozen meals, produce, bread, canned goods and hygiene items to approximately 75-100 college students in need. Students are also invited to meet with a caseworker at the corps as needed, and every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m., college students can pick up fresh produce, bread, sweets and canned goods at the corps. We are grateful to the Deans of Students,  Walmart, Feeding South Dakota, local grocery stores and individual donors for partnering with us to support this program.

Feed the Kids Summer Meal Program
Approximately 34 percent of youth in Brown County receive free or reduced-fee lunch during the school year. When school is out for summer break, we partner with United Way, Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and Feeding South Dakota to visit local parks throughout the summer and provide approximately 120 low-income youth with a nutritious lunch each day.

Hunger goes beyond statistics. While the effects of hunger aren't always obvious, the truth is, real people in Aberdeen suffer from hunger. We strive to ensure that the most vulnerable members of our community do not go hungry.
