The Salvation Army in Bend responds to feed wildfire evacuees and emergency responders of AkawaButte Fire 

 What:   The Akawa Butte Fire About 1,000 firefighters are working to contain a 27,000-acre fire near Sisters, OR that is about 5 percent contained, according to the most recent reports.

Why:  As one of the nation’s major emergency relief organizations, The Salvation Army is on the ground before, during and after a disaster strikes.  

The Salvation Army (TSA) Bend Corps and Community Center leader Alfonso Juarez and a team of staff and volunteers have been on-site at Sisters High School offering food, beverages, as well as emotional and spiritual care since Thursday evening.  Approximately 450 meals and snacks, and 440 beverages has been served for evacuees, first responders and volunteers.  Today, The Salvation Army plans to serve lunch and dinner, and TSA will remain on call as further meal deliveries are requested by the Red Cross.
