Family Services
New Rochelle Corps Community Center Family Services Information
Background
Westchester County has preserved its rural feel and historical flair while integrating the urban and suburban influences of nearby New York City. A wide variety of socioeconomic conditions span the various communities within which nearly 1 million people live. Though the overall poverty rate of 8.5% is lower than the state and national average, the figure is higher for Hispanic and Native residents at 13% and is nearly doubled for Black residents at 16%. Even still, high costs of living affect many, and a quarter of all households are considered to have limited income to supply all basic needs. Our community centers are strategically positioned in locations where individuals and families are most in need.
Youth Programming
Our youth services are vital to helping and empowering young people. These include music and creative arts instruction, after-school enrichment programs, summer day and sleepaway camps, and, in some cases, daycare. We provide a nurturing learning environment while giving parents peace of mind, knowing their children are safe. These programs offer educational support, leadership development, character building, and nutritious meals and snacks to promote healthy growth and learning. Additionally, they provide mentorship and life skills training to help youth with social-emotional learning. We are dedicated to preparing our youth for a productive future through these initiatives.
Feeding
Many New Yorkers are food-insecure, and The Salvation Army is on the front lines addressing this critical issue. Through food pantries, soup kitchens, and special holiday meals, we serve as an essential nutritional resource at our 38 community centers. We ensure that our neighbors can rely on us as an ally in the fight against hunger.
Senior Services
We offer senior services to enhance the quality of life for older adults in Greater New York. These services include social and recreational activities, such as fellowship, low-impact exercises, dance, and countless other "young at heart" activities. We also offer nutritional support through shared meals and for home-bound seniors. Through these initiatives, we foster a healthy, active, communal, and independent lifestyle for seniors.
