Transitional Housing

Often individuals and families struggling with homelessness simply need a short-term respite to get back on their feet again. Heritage Place at Renaissance Village offers short-term housing for men, women, couples and families. Resources like counseling, job training, employment assistance and substance abuse assessments help people struggling with homelessness receive the support and gain the skills and knowledge they need to thrive independently.
Permanent Supportive Housing
Our permanent supportive housing programs serve men, women and families who are chronically homeless and whose head of the household has a documented disability. Participants live in an apartment or a house and pay 30 percent of their adjusted gross income toward rent, with our housing programs paying the balance, as well as assistance paying utilities if needed. Case management, referrals to community resources, individualized planning, crisis support, money management and 24-hour staff accessibility are also provided.
Participants eligible for permanent supportive housing will be referred by Metro Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless (MACCH) to The Salvation Army. These individuals will be referred to MACCH by local shelters and outreach workers. Please contact shelter staff or outreach workers about eligibility for permanent supportive housing.
Housing for Veterans
VA Housing Opportunities Program (VA-HOP)

The VA-HOP program provides up to 12 months of transitional community-based housing for veterans and their families who are struggling with homelessness. The program includes: needs assessment, life skills classes, food assistance, employment assistance, case management and referrals to community resources and long-term housing opportunities.
VA Community Assistance Support Services (VA-CASS)

The VA-CASS program offers up to two years of housing and support for homeless veterans who have medical, physical, mental health or substance use needs. The program includes: facilitated transition from hospitalization to community living, intensive case management focused on stabilizing various health needs, life skills and money management classes and referrals to community resources.

Durham Booth Manor offers 47 clean, bright, affordable apartments to adults age 62 and older with low incomes. In addition to safe, comfortable housing, older adults living at Durham Booth Manor also benefit from the social engagement opportunities available. Learn more about how we partner with older adults.
No Place Like Home
Sandra was forced to relocate from Oklahoma to Omaha to seek treatment at Nebraska Medicine for her newborn son. She soon found The Salvation Army, which set her up in transitional housing, and then later helped her apply for a Section 8 voucher, which allowed her to move into a house. Eight years later, Sandra's son is healthy and thriving, and she is working toward a nursing degree. "The Salvation Army helped us get to where we are today," she said.
