Community Meals

The Capital Area Salvation Army offers a Community Kitchen, which serves a nutritious meal to go. We work with other Lansing area nonprofits and agencies to provide nutritious, filling meals to those in need.

The Lansing Salvation Army Center for Service, located at 525 N. Pennsylvania Ave., serves a sit-down lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday starting at 12:00 pm. Saturday's are sack lunches to go starting at 12:00 pm. All meals will be served while supplies last.

 

Food Pantry

In many ways, America is the land of plenty. But for 1 in 6 people in the United States, hunger is a very real struggle. Many people believe that the problems associated with hunger are confined to small pockets of society, certain areas of the country, or certain neighborhoods, but the reality is much different.

Right now, millions of Americans are at risk of hunger.  These are often hard-working adults, children, and seniors who simply cannot always make ends meet and may be forced to go without food (from Feeding America).

Households in need of food can receive supplemental assistance from The Salvation Army Food Pantry one time each month.  The amount of food each household receives is based on the number of individuals in the family/household.

Serving families and individuals in the Tri-county area, appointments are not necessary at the Center for Service during these specific times:  9:00 am to 12 Noon and 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm M-F.

 

You must have with you at the time of your arrival:

 Every 30 days, members in the household may receive supplemental food items.

  • The Food Pantry is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon) and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Lansing Salvation Army Center for Service located at 525 N. Pennsylvania Ave.
  • New applicants must have an ID for all household members.
  • School ID or medical cards are accepted for children under 18.

All other zip codes, please call 211 from a land line or 866-561-2500 from your cell phone.

These times do not include Federal Holidays or times of extreme weather.

Produce Distribution

Fresh produce is provided in all three counties (Clinton, Ingham, and Eaton) The service is provided to anyone who is low-income or in need of produce. This program runs from January to Mid-October. The following shows the schedule & locations:

 

Clinton County: 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of the month

  • First Baptist Church: Beacon of Hope Family Care Center
  • 512 S. US 127 (Whittemore St) St. Johns, MI 48879
  • Distribution begins at 12:00 p.m.

Eaton County: 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month

  • Eaton Clothing and Furniture Center
  • 135 S. Washington Ave., Charlotte, MI 48813
  • Distribution begins at 11:00 a.m.

Ingham County: Every Wednesday of the month

  • The Salvation Army - Capital Area Distribution Center
  • 3305 S. Pennsylvania Ave Lansing, MI 48910
  • Distribution begins at 12:00 p.m.

(To receive assistance, you must have a valid ID and proof of residence in the relevant county.)
