Holland, MI Corps Utility Rent Assistance Information
At The Salvation Army, our goal is to help individuals and families remain safely housed and move toward greater stability. We understand that unexpected hardships such as job loss, medical expenses, rising costs, or other life challenges can place tremendous pressure on a household. When resources allow, we provide assistance to help prevent utility shutoffs, evictions, and housing loss while connecting people with additional community resources and support.
Every situation is unique, and our team is committed to treating each person with dignity, compassion, and respect. While funding is limited and eligibility requirements apply, we strive to walk alongside our neighbors during difficult seasons and help meet critical needs whenever possible.
Help with Utilities, Rent & Mortgage Assistance
Utility Assistance
Utility assistance is available when funding allows, including gas, electric and deliverable fuel assistance. The majority of utility assistance comes from the Energy Assistance Services grant with the State of Michigan (MEAP), Consumer's Energy Gift Funds and DTE Gift Funds.
Rent / Mortgage Assistance
A small amount of rent and / or mortgage assistance funds may be available during the program year, with a maximum assistance amount of $1,500 per household.
Eligibility guidelines include:
- Not having received rent / mortgage assistance from The Salvation Army in the past three (3) years
- Household income of 60% SMI or less
- Must reside in The Salvation Army Holland Corps Community Center service area
- Past due rent
- Must have one of the following:
- Recent loss of income
- Significant medical expense
- Household member with a disability
- Senior age 62 or older
- Children in the household
