Pathway of Hope
The Salvation Army's Pathway of Hope initiative provides individualized services to families with children who desire to take action to break the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that repeats generation after generation. It seeks to address the root causes of poverty in addition to The Army's history of compassionate serving. By helping families overcome challenges like unemployment, unstable housing, and lack of education, we can lead families down a path toward increased stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency.
Free Clothing Closet
Our free Clothing Closet distributes clothing, shoes, coats, and more to individuals and families in need - free of charge. Our Clothing Closet is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9:15 am to 11:15 am. We accept donations of clothing, shoes, coats, bedding, and small household necessities during our regular business hours (Monday through Thursday from 9am to 3pm.
Bridges Out of Poverty
The Salvation Army of Michigan City offers two sessions of Bridges Out of Poverty: Gettin' Ahead in a Just Gettin' By World every year. These 12-week sessions help individuals: build resources, develop a unique and workable plan to move forward, learn "hidden rules" to help get ahead, and discover skills for greater success. These classes are free and open to La Porte County residents who enroll prior to the first class each session. Incentives are offered throughout the session to encourage regular attendance and celebrate milestones. Those interested should contact The Salvation Army at (219) 874-6885 for information about upcoming sessions.
