Meet the Officers

Captains Scott and Dena Smith

Captains Scott and Dena Smith have served as corps officers in The Salvation Army St. Charles Corps and Community Center for the past four years. Capt. Dena was introduced to The Salvation Army at a young age through her late husband’s family. For many years, she attended Illinois’s Salvation Army Corps and Community Center Danville becoming very involved in the corps’ programs. However, when her husband passed in 2014, Dena was called to venture into deeper into ministry. She reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Scott, who also felt called to ministry. They were married in 2015 and entered the College for Officer Training in 2017.

Together, they are looking forward to connecting with Allen County communities. “I believe in the saying, ‘make new friends, but keep the old,” Capt. Dena added. “I am eager to form new friendships and partnerships.” However, fulfilling The Salvation Army’s mission of meeting the needs of local communities remains Capts. Smith’s top priority.
