Building A New Life in Jacksonville: Samantha's Story
Samantha moved to Jacksonville to build a new life. At 27 years old, she was promised a job and a relationship with a man she had met online. Two months after moving to Jacksonville, she found herself pregant and the father was not interested in the responsibility of raising a child. She found herself homeless. Samantha contined to work, but the challenge of finding a new place to live seemed impossible. She came to The Salvation Army for food and found so much more.
After meeting with our Social Services Coordinator, she was placed in our emergency transitional housing program at a local motel. She met weekly with a case manager, who helped her secure permanent housing. She was provided resources to ensure the health of her and her unborn baby. She was prayed with every week during her case management sessions and began attending Bible study.
The Salvation Army helped her find the new life she was seeking when she first came to Jacksonville.
In Jacksonville, The Salvation Army provides groceries to 320 families each month at our Client Choice Pantry, and 720 nights of lodging for unhoused families at local motels.
