Food Insecurity is real

59% of people seeking food assistance choose between paying for food and paying rent or mortgage.

Each night in the U.S., 17.4 million families go to bed hungry. An additional 6.9 million families experience very low food security. Because many families live in food deserts where affordable food isn't readily available, when they do eat, many children eat highly processed food with a lack of nutrients.

Hunger is curable. You can help!

The Salvation Army provides more than 65,000 nutritious meals for seniors, children and families in Champaign every year.

Every day we're providing meals to children in Head Start programs, families in shelters, people living on the streets, and struggling neighbors who are unsure of where their next meal will come from. In addition to addressing the immediate symptoms of food insecurity, our programs are designed to help identify and treat its root cause

How You Can Help

You can make a difference in the fight against hunger by:

  • Volunteering: Volunteer your time to help with food distribution, meal preparation, or other tasks.
  • Donating: Your gift helps us provide food and other essential services to those in need.
  • Donating Food: Donate nonperishable food items to our local Salvation Army food pantry.

By working together, we can ensure that everyone in our community has access to the food they need to thrive.
