Hunger Is Real in Rural Iowa
One in 8 Iowans are food insecure, meaning they might not know where or how they will get their next meal, and 1 in 5 Iowa children do not have enough to eat.
Hunger isn't just an urban problem. The truth is, individuals and families are struggling with hunger and food insecurity right here in Jasper County, too.
How We Help Cure Hunger
Emergency Food Pantry  |  Monday through Friday from 10-11:45 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. (as needed)
Jasper County residents can use the emergency food pantry once every 30 days for canned goods, packaged foods and other staples. Those wishing to use the pantry are required to complete a form provided by The Salvation Army as well as give identification, employment verification or paycheck stubs, a piece of current mail to validate residency, and Social Security cards for all members of the household. The food pantry may be closed for restocking two days a month.
Food insecurity is a major issue -- both in Newton and around Jasper County. Demand is very high at our food pantry. If you’d like to support our food pantry via in-kind or monetary donations, here’s how to do that:
- Our pantry is in need of the following food items:
- Cereal
- Bread
- Canned soup
- Canned pasta sauce
- Mac ‘n cheese
- Pasta noodles
- Box dinners
- Peanut butter
Monetary donations for the food pantry can be made here: https://donate.salarmywestern.org/give/205730/#!/donation/checkout
