Cure Hunger

A little bit of assistance can make a big difference.

Food and Material Assistance

More than 1,600 people in Council Bluffs and Pottawattamie County are helped by The Salvation Army's food and material assistance programs each year.

Paving a Way Out of Poverty

How We Help Meet Human Need

Weekly Food Pantry
Each week we have a selection of canned goods and frozen meat available to families and individuals struggling to put food on the table. The pantry is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Please call 712-328-2088 to make an appointment to visit the pantry.

Material Assistance
Someone who is weathering a season of unemployment or living paycheck to paycheck often struggles when faced with adding even one small expense to the monthly budget. That's why we offer individuals and families not only rent and utilities assistance but also items like free fans to bring relief during the sweltering summer months and food vouchers, toys and other gift items to ensure there are presents under the tree at Christmas.

Back-to-School Supplies
We collaborate with our three partners on the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus and nearly two dozen additional community agencies to present an annual Back-to-School Fair in August, providing nearly 800 students with backpacks and the supplies they need to be prepared for the new school year.
