About our Speakers

Richard S. Franklin, with Franklin Karibjanian Law & DePersis PLLC, a boutique trusts and estates law firm, focuses on estate planning, trusts and estate administration, and beneficiary and fiduciary representation. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Florida Bars, and a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  He serves on the ACTEC Tax Policy Study Committee and chairs the Well-Being Subcommittee of the Practice Committee.  He has spoken at numerous estate planning programs and written on estate planning topics for ACTEC Law Journal, Actionline, BNA Insights, Estate Planning, Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, Probate & Property, Steve Leimberg’s Newsletters, Tax Notes, The Florida Bar Journal, The Washington Lawyer, Trusts & Estates, and the Bloomberg/BNA Estates, Gifts & Trust Journal.  Richard is a DC Super Lawyer®, has been named a Top Lawyer in Washingtonian's biennial lists, is ranked in The Best Lawyers® in America as a leading lawyer in the Trusts and Estates category, and rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale Hubbell.  Prior to joining Virginia McArthur and founding McArthur Franklin and then Franklin Karibjanian Law & DePersis PLLC, Richard was a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP.

Claudia Tordini focuses on building well-being science research and tools into trusts and estates planning. She is an Ivy-League certified executive coach and organizational consultant. Claudia guides clients on how inheritance can support family well-being, and particularly works with parents in crafting their inheritance vision and philosophy, which can be included in their estate planning documents. She brings a refreshing outlook to inheritance that helps parents and families break out of the fear-based approaches to financial inheritance, such as the fundamental fear that money will harm children’s development, creating a better foundation for positive and constructive relationships within the family.

Claudia is also an adjunct faculty member of the Organizational Dynamics Program (University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences) and The Stavros Niarchos Paideia Program at the University of Pennsylvania (a program dedicated to educating students to lead fulfilling and integrated personal, professional, and civic lives).

Claudia is a sought-after speaker and writes for various publications within the family wealth and inheritance field. Together with Richard Franklin, Claudia co-authored a chapter titled A Framework for Family Wealth and Well-Being in the book Wealth of Wisdom: Top Practices for Wealthy Families and Their Advisors published by Wiley in 2022.
