Burrows Center Resumes Client-Choice Food Pantry Operations

Apr 5, 2022

“This gives our clients much more freedom in choosing items they and their families actually need and want.”

The Salvation Army of Omaha is pleased to announce that after two years of COVID-19 restrictions, the Burrows Center for Help and Hope – located in the Benson neighborhood at 6101 NW Radial Highway -- has resumed its client-choice food pantry operations.

Until this week, food has been pre-selected and bagged by staff members and distributed to clients at the front entrance of the Burrows Center. With COVID cases continuing to decrease, however, the pantry has resumed its client-choice operations, which means individuals can now shop for and select what they need in the pantry itself.

“We are very glad to be able to restart the client-choice pantry,” said Tiffanie McCowin, director of material assistance and seasonal services. “This gives our clients much more freedom in choosing items they and their families need and want.”

Demand for food and other human services has been high over the last two years, and rising inflation is continuing to impact those who are living paycheck to paycheck. In 2021 alone, the Burrows Center filled more than 5,200 grocery orders, ensuring those in need had adequate nutrition to fuel success at work and school. More recently, demand for food at Burrows increased more than 24% between the winter of 2020-2021 and that of 2021-2022.

In addition to providing food, the Burrows Center also offers front-line social services, providing help with utility bill payments, prescription costs and material assistance.

The Burrows Center food pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. (closed Wednesdays). Please call 402-898-6090 for details about eligibility or additional information.

Donations help keep our pantry stocked all year round. Please consider helping our neighbors in need by making a donation here. Thank you!
