Hurricane Ike makes landfall, The Salvation Army assesses damage and prepares to assist those impacted by the storm
The state of Texas has requested that The Salvation Army provide 3
canteen units to accompany 3 "State Strike Force" teams that will move
into Beaumont, Lufkin and Galveston tomorrow morning.
These strike
force teams consist of military, state incident commands and other
first responder/emergency workers. The canteens will provide meals to
these strike force teams as they set up command posts in these three
cities.
Incident command teams are assessing the damage and setting up centers of operation to meet the immediate needs by providing shelter, food, water, ice, cleaning supplies, baby supplies, hygiene products and emotional and spiritual care, among other services.
