Kids Nationwide Given $100 to Purchase Books, Backpacks, Calculators, Clothing and Other School Needs
Alexandria, VA (August 11, 2009) Some 2,000 students were set loose throughout Target stores across the country today to select backpacks, calculators, pens/pencils, art supplies, binders, clothing and other school needs just in time for back-to-school. Each child, selected by The Salvation Army, was awarded a $100 Target GiftCard to purchase school supplies and a volunteer chaperone will help with their shopping selections.
As part of the back-to-school program, Target awarded ten Salvation Army divisions with a $25,000 grant, which included $20,000 worth of Target GiftCards for the shopping sprees, and an additional $5,000 to cover transportation and other administration expenses. More than 80 Target stores participated in the one-day event in select markets across the country, including Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Dallas, Miami, New York, Baltimore/Washington, D.C. and Seattle.
