National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Hosts Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

On Saturday, May 11, the National Association of Letter Carriers held their annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive – the largest one-day food drive in the country.

Every year, letter carriers carry tens of millions of pounds of food to help those in need. More than 34 million Americans experience food insecurity rely on food donations.

The idea is simple: letter carriers provide bags for home residents to fill with non-perishable food and leave by their mailbox. Letter carriers then pick up the donations and they are taken to local food banks, including The Salvation Army.

The food drive provides an opportunity to come together with the common goal of giving back to those struggling to feed their families.

In Michigan, donations were given to the following Corps:

  • Niles – 3,900 pounds of food donated
  • Sturgis – 5,231
  • Jackson – 48,000 pounds of food donated
  • Traverse City – 500 pounds of food donated
  • Kalamazoo - 8,561 pounds of food donated
  • Grand Haven – 2,355 pounds of food donated
  • Muskegon – 35,757
  • Holland - awaiting totals
  • Bay City – 4,125 pounds of food donated
  • Lansing – 5,000 pounds of food donated
  • Midland - awaiting totals
  • Saginaw - 258 items donated
  • Downriver - 8,680 pounds donated
  • Dearborn Heights - awaiting totals
  • Royal Oak – over 27,000 pounds of food donated
  • Farmington Hills. - 1,600 pounds of food donated
  • Warren - 16,200 pounds of food donated
